ROUGH MAGIC – a benefit event to support FREE OUTDOOR SHAKESPEARE

In “The Tempest”, Prospero refers to his art as “…this rough magic”.

We can think of no better metaphor than this for our own art, taking the most rudimentary and immediate of theatrical ingredients – simple set and costumes, the actor, an audience, a breath and a thought – and conjuring spirits with which we keep audiences spellbound for two hours on a summer evening.
