On Sunday, December 8 at 11am and Wednesday, Dec 11 at 7pm, Cleveland Cinemas are offering an ‘encore screening’ of a live-broadcast of Richard II, performed at the RSC’s Stratford-upon-Avon theatre. You may choose from the Cedar-Lee Theater in Cleveland Heights or the Capitol Theater on W. 65th in Cleveland.
Our window for purchasing group sales is closed, but we encourage you to go directly to the Cleveland Cinemas site and reserve your tickets for the screening of your choice
Richard is King. A monarch ordained by God to lead his people. But he is also a man of very human weakness. A man whose vanity threatens to divide the great houses of England and drag his people into a dynastic civil war that will last 100 years.
RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran directs David Tennant in the title role. David is joined in the Company by Oliver Ford Davies as the Duke of York, Michael Pennington as John of Gaunt and Nigel Lindsay as Bolingbroke.
Richard II is the first production to be broadcast live as part of the Live from Stratford-upon-Avon Season with more titles to be announced in September 2013.
You can read more about this production, and the entire series, here: http://onscreen.rsc.org.uk/richard-ii/default.aspx
On Monday, December 2 at 7pm, we’re meeting at Negative Space Gallery and Cafe, located in the AsianTown Plaza building at 3820 Superior Ave. Free parking and the entrance to the building is located off of 38th St (Lots B and C) between Payne and Superior. Take the stairs or elevator to the second floor.
Find out more about them at their website: http://www.thinknegativespace.com/
Roles will be assigned at the beginning of the event and rotated throughout the play without regard to traditional casting considerations, to give a chance to everyone who wants to read.
Whether or not you’ve seen the current Great Lakes Theater production (running through Nov 3), come and immerse yourself in this bloody tale of the rise and fall of Shakespeare’s most ruthless and cunning villain.
In November, we read the first part of the play. This month, we’ll start at Act 3, sc 1 and read through the conclusion of the play. If you missed the beginning, no worries. Either read the first two acts on your own or we’ll provide a recap of key plot points beforehand.
We will have a limited number of copies available, so if you have a copy of your own, please bring it.
